The 2024 MHSAA Division 4 Competitive Cheer State Finals was a masterclass in focus, teamwork, and athleticism. Held at the highest level of competition in Michigan, this event brought together the state’s most eldite Division 4 squads — each with months of practice, countless hours of preparation, and one shot to leave it all on the mat. Covering this event was nothing short of electric. From the first round’s crisp motions and unified vocals to the edge-of-your-seat tumbling in Round 3, every team brought something unique to the floor. The atmosphere was charged with energy — a blend of nerves, pride, and pure adrenaline. Competitive cheer is unlike any other sport. It’s equal parts choreography and strategy, emotion and control. As a photographer, my goal was to showcase the moments that happen in a flash — the synchronized launches, the intense eye contact between teammates mid-routine, the split-second stillness before an eruption of motion. The commitment these athletes bring is visible in every image: stances held strong, voices echoing through the arena, and teammates lifting each other — literally and figuratively — in pursuit of excellence.
